The Beach Cities Dermatology team also includes Dr. Steven Gammer, Dr. Geover Fernandez and Fariba Seraj, NP/PA-C, who work at the practice’s other locations: Rolling Hills Estates/Palos Verdes, Culver City, Seal Beach, Big Bear Lake and Tarzana. Dr. Wickwire, a South Bay native and a board-certified dermatologist, has been in private practice for 26 years. He is a graduate of Chadwick School and, in addition to his dermatology training, he studied internal medicine at Brown University. Dr. Ammar, a Mohs surgeon and board certified dermatologist, has been in practice for seven years. He studied at Rutgers University and relocated to California after competing training in dermatology and Mohs surgery.
How do you give back to your community?
“We perform free skin cancer screenings for the community in Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach. We also are happy to work with patients who have serious health needs but need financial assistance.”
What trends are defining your specialty today?
“The race is on to develop minimally-invasive and non-invasive procedures. Procedures that were considered extensive a few years ago can be performed today in a quick, elegant and relatively painless way with little disruption to the patient’s life. Also, prevention is much more a focus today than has been the case in the past.”
What does the future hold for your practice?
Dr. Wickwire: “We simply want to continue to offer our patients the most advanced, personal and efficient skin care available. We have been fortunate to grow quite a bit over the years, making us one of the biggest dermatology practices in the South Bay—we believe this is because we do right by our patients in every way we can.”
What would you like potential patients to know about you?
Dr. Ammar: “It is a privilege to have someone place their trust in us during times of uncertainty or illness, and we take that responsibility very seriously. We are fortunate to have a stellar staff, and that makes it a much more enjoyable and comfortable experience for all involved.”
It’s all about resorting faith.
Simultaneously the world’s most populous city and its busiest port, Shanghai is arguably the coolest, most important place on the planet these days. Just what creates zeitgeist—be it Paris in the ‘20s, Victorian London or New York in perpetuity—is difficult to distill. But by all measurements, the cognoscenti concur that Shanghai is the “it” city of the new millennium.
