White House Pilates, with locations in Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach, offers private and semi-private Pilates sessions, as well as small group reformer, tower and chair classes. Owner Caroline Londergan guarantees top-quality instruction with the studio’s highly educated and certified instructors. In the fitness industry for 15 years, Caroline was a professional ballet and modern dancer for eight years and is a certified Pilates instructor through the PhysicalMind Institute. She was the first instructor to introduce the Pilates method to the White House, Secret Service and DC SWAT Team in Washington, D.C. Caroline was chosen among an elite group to study with the legendary, Lolita San Miguel, the only living descendant who was given a certificate from Joseph Pilates himself. Upon completion of this program, she will hold the title 2nd Generation Pilates Master.
What would you like potential clients to know about you?
“I hear a lot of clients tell me they were intimidated at first to start Pilates on the apparatus. Our goal at White House Pilates is to make each client feel comfortable and, regardless of their fitness level, to come in and try Pilates.”
What’s most rewarding about your work?
“It is so rewarding to witness clients in the moment they experience the mind/body connection. It’s like a lightbulb you can see physically, and they begin to carry themselves with boosted confidence and better body awareness. The mind, body and spirit are essential to the Pilates method.”
Who is your typical client?
“Many clients want to try Pilates, because they are in a fitness rut and are looking to spice up their regular gym routine. Pilates is a wonderful complement to other workouts, because it exercises the smaller muscle groups that support the joints and the deeper core muscles that many conventional methods leave out. We also have clients come to us because they realize that they need to work out smarter and not harder. All the years of lifting heavy weights can put unnecessary strain and imbalance on the body. When they learn the Pilates method, they immediately feel better, because their body is balanced, aligned and working more efficiently.”
What will new clients like about your unique approach to fitness?
“New clients love the intellectual approach we offer at White House Pilates. We aren’t there to bark orders; we believe in educating our clients on how to call on the proper muscles so they can move freely and without pain.”
What do you suggest clients do when they hit a plateau with their fitness routine?
“We switch it up! Our highly educated instructors know how to make even the most basic exercises more challenging for our clients. Even our clients that have been with us from day one are amazed to learn a new exercise and continue to meet new challenges with Pilates. It is a hard method to perfect and, therefore, clients (and instructors) never stop learning.”
What is the biggest benefit your clients gain from seeing you for their health and fitness needs?
“I love when clients proudly report they notice a difference outside the studio. Whether they are sitting taller and more comfortably at work or remembering to engage their core while picking up their child, they can apply what they learn with us to their everyday lives.”
What does the future hold for your company?
“We are currently taking applications for our Pilates Teacher Training Certification Program set to start in August. Students who complete our program and graduate will become 3rd Generation Pilates Instructors.”
