Tell us about the P.S. I Love You Foundation (PSILYF).

“The P.S. I Love You Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing at-risk youth in L.A. through educational and inspirational enrichment programs, in-school mentor programs and annual community outreach events. The foundation is managed by its board of directors and run by volunteers with no paid staff members. The foundation currently reaches more than 700 at-risk youth annually.”

"Just 20 minutes from manhattan beach exist title i schools in Watts and Compton. That’s practically in our backyard.”

Why did you choose this non-profit organization to support?

“PSILYF is a unique organization that provides many avenues to make a difference in the lives of our community’s children. Just 20 minutes from Manhattan Beach exist Title 1 schools in Watts and Compton. That’s practically in our backyard. The children in these schools are good kids and possess great potential but struggle to see it in themselves—and as a result lack engagement in school and sometimes turn to negative influence. That’s why all of the PSILYF enrichment programs are built on self-esteem and self-awareness, which leads to improved academic focus and interest in school.

The foundation also holds an annual community outreach event, Day At The Beach ‘Adopt A Child For One Day,’ which draws close to 400 volunteers and more than 250 at-risk youth, plus PSILYF has developed the Hug a Community program, which allows corporations to support Title 1 schools that are located near their business facility.”

What’s one simple way an individual can reach out and make a difference?

“We can always use volunteers, but the easiest way to make a difference is monetary support. Approximately $100 can sponsor two children in one of our 12-week enrichment programs. It may seem like a small act, but it makes a huge difference in the life of the child you impact.”
