Emily McDonald

“In my sorority, I noticed how many times women borrowed dresses from their friends instead of making a new purchase, due to high cost or difficulty finding the perfect dress for the occasion,” said Emily McDonald, who moved to Manhattan Beach three years ago after finishing school at USC.

“In my sorority, I noticed how many times women borrowed dresses from their friends instead of making a new purchase, due to high cost or difficulty finding the perfect dress for the occasion,” said Emily McDonald, who moved to Manhattan Beach three years ago after finishing school at USC.

“After graduating, I realized I didn’t want to take the ‘normal’ route of the 9 to 5 job, so I began developing the dress-borrowing service concept and turned it into a reality.”

Emily’s business, The Stylist LA, gives women with a budget and an occasion the dress they want to wear. “We consider ourselves to be a concierge service, meaning we give individual, personalized service to our clients,” she said. “We then discuss the event, the client’s size and body type, and then I pull dresses from our collection that I think will fit their needs. Once they find the dress, they pay the borrowing and cleaning fee and keep the dress for the week.”

When Emily’s not pulling dresses from her portable rack, she’s probably hitting the local South Bay hotspots with her best girlfriends. On a free weekend you might find her brunching at Four Daughters, shopping at Katwalk, and taking the karaoke microphone at Fusion. But there’s one destination that’s always en vogue for this stylish 20-something. “In true South Bay fashion, one of my favorite places to hang out is the beach!” Visit Emily’s site at stylistla.com.
