Tell us about Give Back A Smile and how your practice supports them.
“The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation’s (AACDCF) Give Back a Smile (GBAS) program provides dental care at no cost to survivors of intimate partner violence who have received traumatic dental injuries to their smile-zone as a result of abuse. Participating dentists donate their time and talents to restore or replace damaged teeth.”
What’s most rewarding about your work?
“It’s not about how many implants I have done or how many smile makeovers I have created. What is most rewarding to me is giving people hope. Instilling in people the confidence that tomorrow is going to be better than today, that they are going feel and look better, that they will no longer have to live in pain … that is the ultimate reward.”
Tell us about one of your favorite experiences in the past when you volunteered with a charitable cause or organization.
“I recently volunteered at the Los Angeles Free Clinic. I spent two days treating patients in need. Most of the patients I treated were going through a rough time in their lives or were in the process of coming out of a rough time. To know that I played a small part in these people’s health—to help them get back into the work force with a healthier, more confident smile—is a great feeling.”
What’s one simple way an individual can reach out and make a difference?
“Giving back to the community does not have to be about money. You don’t have to be super-wealthy to give back or to make a difference in someone’s life. Something as simple as tutoring a child in need for one or two hours a week can have a huge impact.”
Who is your favorite celebrity philanthropist?
“Warren Buffett. I believe he is the epitome of a philanthropist in our society today. He has pledged to give away his entire fortune to charitable organizations. He is a role model to us all.”
