Founded in 1948, Griswold & Griswold Insurance Agency specializes in business and professional services insurance and provides industry-specific policies such as professional liability, commercial property and auto, worker’s compensation and employee group benefits. The company is owned by Keiko Griswold, who has been with the company for more than 30 years. Her son, vice president Steven Griswold, oversees all day-to-day operations. At the urging of his father, founder Bill Griswold, Steven joined the agency in 2001, just before graduating college. He has taken the company from focusing on life, health and disability insurance for physicians to an all-lines brokerage that specializes in nonprofits and healthcare but has clients across a dozen other industries.

What would you like potential clients to know about you? 

“That we are not your typical insurance agency. Our approach is consultative instead of sales-based. Everyone is entitled to a clear, understandable explanation and assessment of their current coverages, whether or not they’re a client. We are one of a handful of agencies in the U.S. certified as a B Corporation—reflecting our commitment to environmental and social responsibility far beyond that of most businesses. And we pride ourselves on our service. We have clients who have stayed with us for more than 50 years, whose children are also clients.”

What’s one trend that is changing the insurance industry today?

“Health reform is the biggest concern in the insurance industry right now. We’re finding that the industry’s outreach to individuals and businesses may not be sufficient enough to answer all the questions and calm everyone’s fears about the coming change. The true impact of PPACA on the economic landscape is still unclear at this point.”

What is the biggest benefit your clients gain from working with you?

“Our nonprofit clients will have more than just a responsive, competent insurance agency making sure they’re well-protected. They will gain a true partner invested in their continued success, as it’s company policy to give back to our nonprofit stakeholders in terms of support and time.
