Regardless of the task at hand, Keith Marcus, MD, performs with excellence and absolute dedication—from self-health to parenting to directing his eponymous medical spa. Take, for instance, his passion for coffee. He makes his own batch of cold brew weekly, and if he’s in the mood for hot coffee, it’s always a precisely measured pour-over. “I have way too many coffee gadgets, but I use them all regularly,” he says.

Dr. Marcus devotes that same precise attention to his patients at Marcus Medical Spa and Marcus Facial Plastic Surgery, which he founded in 2008. The practice, with locations in Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach, focuses solely on facial aesthetics. The doctors, nurses, physician assistants and aestheticians offer several stages of beauty support for the face—including spa services, laser treatments, injectables, and cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.

“My expertise is in full facial rejuvenation, which focuses on a patient’s natural facial shape and underlying anatomy,” Dr. Marcus says. “The goal of both surgery and injectables is to look refreshed and rejuvenated but never look like you’ve had work done.”

A Sanctuary For Skin

Many clients begin with the spa’s medical-grade skin care lines. Staff experts provide professional customization and personal follow-up. “Skin care matters for everyone,” Dr. Marcus notes. “Many patients spend thousands of dollars on lasers or surgery and then don’t protect their investment by using skin care. I encourage all our patients to sit down with one of our experts when they come in.”

The vibe of Marcus Medical Spa is warm, relaxing and inviting; staff members treat clients more like friends than patients.

“I have the most fantastic team of practitioners working with me,” Dr. Marcus says, “and our office always strives for excellence—not only in patient care but in actually caring. We get to know patients on a personal basis, and they become family.”

Dr. Marcus and his partner, Sheena Samra, MD, are both facial plastic surgeons who perform cosmetic surgery. Dr. Samra specializes in rhinoplasty, and Dr. Marcus focuses on improving the aging face by performing face lifts and neck lifts. They both offer eyelid surgery, brow lifts, lip lifts, chin implants and ear surgery.

A double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Marcus attended medical school at the University of Southern California and completed a surgical residency at the University of Michigan. He spent five years specializing in head and neck surgery prior to completing one of the most renowned facial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowships in the nation. “I am an expert in anatomy,” he explains, “which helps me assess patients with artistry and an aesthetic eye.”

He and a full-time team at Marcus Medical perform extensive clinical research, including FDA trials for new aesthetic drugs or new indications for existing drugs such as Botox and fillers. “I love this part of the practice!” Dr. Marcus says. “It’s very exciting to be on the forefront of what’s coming down the aesthetic pipeline.”

He has also educated thousands of health care professionals nationally and internationally on injectable treatments. As a renowned expert injector, he travels three months our of the year, teaching and lecturing around the world.

Back to Basics

When the coronavirus pandemic first started in the U.S., Dr. Marcus shut down Marcus Medical for almost two months and didn’t travel for more than a year. During this time he realized how exhausted he was from working 6½ days per week and traveling every weekend. “This was ironic since I strive to create a culture in the office where people aren’t exhausted and are always at their best,” he says.

Today he is back to his normal schedule—but taking the time to rejuvenate himself as well as his patients. He frequents local restaurants, especially The Arthur J and Love & Salt in Manhattan Beach. If he’s not brewing his own perfect cup of coffee at home, he picks up a macchiato from Pursue Coffee in Redondo Beach. To feel his best, he hits the gym, runs on the beach and fasts for 18 hours a day.

A Palos Verdes native, he is thrilled to be raising his children in his hometown community. He and son Harlan, age 5, and daughter London, age 6½, have lots of fun adventures together. They enjoy the beach, swimming, spending time with their grandparents and picking fruit from their garden to make fresh-squeezed juice.

Dr. Marcus gets a boost every day from doing what he loves for work. “I’m energized by my patients and look forward to working in the South Bay for years to come,” he says. “If I’m ever having a bad day, it’s impossible not to smile and turn my mood around with the interactions we have with our patients. When people are happy and feel good about themselves, it rubs off.”

Whether you’re hoping to improve the appearance of your skin, treat age-related wrinkles, diminish cellulite, or address more complicated issues like scars and post-traumatic injury—look to Marcus Medical for personalized care that helps patients look and feel their best.

“We not only have the goal of natural-looking results,” Dr. Marcus says. “We also want to instill confidence and garner trust from our patients. We listen just as much as we treat.”
