Bernadette and Melanie of Elegance Boutique Spa nail it with their new garden-set manicure cottage.
Remember those nights as a kid when bedtime included mom tucking you in with a kiss on the forehead? Pay it forward by giving her the gift of restful bliss at one of our favorite spa escapes in the South Bay. Elegance Boutique Spa, with its feminine touch, offers the perfect sanctuary for deserving moms to melt their troubles away.
Owner Bernadette George invited Geri Miller of Home Grown Edible Landscapes to embellish the tranquil surroundings of the spa’s private garden, adding climbing grape vines, vegetables and herbs and flowers picked fresh daily for many facial and body treatments. She also recently welcomed celebrity manicurist Melanie McCully to the scene, where visitors can enjoy the intimate experience of a manicure or pedicure in a truly magical setting.

Perhaps there’s no better place to get an education in all things green than the South Bay Botanic Garden.
Since 1961, the gardens have enchanted visitors with nearly 200,000 plant varieties, an impressive collection known for its experimental horticulture as well as its natural beauty. The wide variety of plants provides food and shelter to an abundant wildlife and bird population, with more than 200 species of birds sighted annually.
Mother’s Day will be no exception, as the garden welcomes families from all over the South Bay to come enjoy the property. The day kicks off with a BYO family picnic in the upper and lower meadows of the garden. Be sure to visit the display at the greenhouse, currently bursting with tropical foliage and blooms of vibrant colors. Cap your afternoon with a concert by the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band at 2 p.m in Frances Young Hall. Concert admission is included with any paid garden admission.

Ballroom dance classes make for an entertaining adventure both moms and their kin can enjoy together.
One of the premier dance studios in Southern California is located right here in the South Bay. You Can Dance Studio hosts the talents of two of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars top professionals, Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts, as well as a roster of amazing teachers. Take a passionate turn with tango lessons or go for the basics with Latin and ballroom fundamentals.
The social dance program is a fantastic way to meet other fans of ballroom dance in the South Bay and find new practice partners in a fun and casual environment. No matter the speed and no matter the level, dancing is great way for mom to strut her stuff and show she’s still got it. Now stand up straight, dear.
