The Bar Method, Inc. was founded in 2000, with the flagship studio opened the next year in San Francisco. Since then, the owners have franchised many Bar Method studios around the country, including those in Hermosa Beach and Palos Verdes, owned by Miliana Katic. The Bar Method is an exercise program that combines interval training, isometric techniques, principals of dance and the fundamentals of physical therapy. It is a one-hour, full-body workout set to music, where students use light weights as well as the bar. The studio offers mixed level classes in Palos Verdes and mixed level and level 2 classes in Hermosa Beach. Miliana trained with Burr Leonard, founder of The Bar Method, and then worked as a teacher in the West Hollywood and West LA studios while her Hermosa studio was built.
What would you like potential clients to know about you?
“Bar Method transformed my body, which is why I’m such an advocate and believer. It made me feel so amazing every time I took class; I yearned for this feeling every day. I would drive to LA six times a week before I opened my Hermosa Beach studio. So I’m very excited to offer this great feeling to our community.”
What will new clients like about your unique approach to fitness?
“Our approach of learning every client’s name and tailoring each exercise to fit all fitness levels is how a new client will benefit the most. They will feel like they’re really getting a personalized experience. We make sure that everyone who comes to class feels welcomed and challenged.”
Tell us about your staff.
“Our staff is made of former clients-turned-teachers. These are women who fell in love with the method and wanted to take it to the next level. They are initially trained by professional Bar Method trainers and then trained in our studios by senior teachers and with practical class experience. We are reviewed every year by corporate and continue to receive re-training as necessary.”
What do you like to do for fun, when you’re not at work?
“When I’m not at work, you can see me around the South Bay attending classes with my two daughters, ages 2½ and 6 months. We’re either at ballet class or hanging out at the beach.”
