A style maven brings her fashion expertise and signature line to the South Bay.

A 15-year veteran of the fashion industry, Dawn Baker began her career in New York City in sales at Bergdorf Goodman and wholesale sales at CP Shades. She followed those gigs with a production opportunity at J.Crew and merchandising for ISAAC, Isaac Mizrahi’s women’s wear line, which she helped develop from beginning to end.

“I’ve had the good fortune of working with renowned designers like Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Nicole Miller, both internationally and domestically,” shares Dawn. “Having worked for some of the biggest and the best in many different areas of fashion, I learned and retained so much valuable information.”

Her years working in merchandising proved essential when deciding to open her first store, happy LA in Pacific Palisades, applying the experience of buying for big design houses on a smaller scale to her own boutique. Now the South Bay gets a taste, with the opening of dawn baker on Manhattan Avenue.

“I just feel that being by the beach is the right place for me, my style, my line, the brands that I carry and the customers who shop here.”

Dawn’s own fashion line focuses on timeless designs and affordable essentials to complement women of all shapes and sizes. In addition to the dawn baker label, she carries such brands as Gypsy 05, Paige Premium Denim, Fiel shoes, American Vintage and even Missoni Home. “I am so inspired by everything around me and most of all the women who come into my store every day,” she says. “Ultimately, when people walk out of my store looking good and feeling good about themselves, then I know that I have done my job.”
