During a visit to South Bay, Dr. Howard Fein was struck by the natural beauty of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and decided to build his private practice there. Since opening Palos Verdes Dermatology Associates in 2004, he has developed a deep attachment and friendship to the people in the community. He enjoys healthy cooking with his family, hiking in the canyons of Palos Verdes, and he is an avid Lakers fan.

Dr. Fein’s interest in medicine began while attending the University of California at Berkeley for his undergraduate degree. He received his medical degree at the University of Southern California and completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency in dermatology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He also completed advanced fellowship training in Mohs micrographic and dermatologic surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Fein is the author of several journal articles and textbook chapters dealing with both general and surgical dermatology. He provides medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology treatments.

What’s most rewarding about your work?

“Listening to my patients, understanding their needs and completely taking care of all of their skin problems. Making sure my patients are happy is really all that matters to me.”

What trends are defining your specialty today?

“The are many new dermatology treatments that either work faster, have less downtime or are easier to use. To provide the highest quality care, we routinely incorporate these medical advances into our practice. We constantly examine the most advanced technologies, evidenced-based care and medical publications to ensure that our patients continue receive the highest quality care possible.”

How do you give back to your community?

“I have been the director of dermatologic surgery at Harbor+UCLA Medical Center since 2004, where I am responsible for teaching medical students and residents. We donate to several South Bay organizations, including the Peninsula Education Foundation, Kiwanis Club and several local high school sporting teams.”

What would you like potential patients to know about you?

“Our office team, including Dr. Fein, physician assistant Erica Rutman, and our friendly and caring office staff, all are dedicated to helping our new and existing patients. For our patients’ convenience, we accept all PPO insurance plans and Medicare.”
