Describe the featured project.
This mid-century home update with a new landscape master plan focused on a modern, warm design with a Mediterranean planting palette. Materials selected have a California coastal feel, reinforcing the location. The custom limestone paving was fabricated in large format with a subtle texture. Glass tiles selected for the water wall, spa and lap pool are blue hues reflecting the colors of the ocean. We planted sage greens intermixed with additional various green tones and textures for interest and color—both bright from the succulents to the salvias’ grey lavender blossoms. The outdoor sanctuary also includes a spa, stone water feature, fireplace faced with Palos Verdes stone in the outdoor living area, a firepit, outdoor kitchen and dining room, outdoor shower and gym area, edible garden beds and climate-appropriate fruit trees including citrus varieties that will thrive in our specific coastal micro-climate.
Tell us about your business and your specialty services.
Rainville Design Studio (rDS) is a full-service landscape design-build firm based in Los Angeles. Our goal is to create experiences for our clients that enhance their lives in a sustainable and restorative manner. Our signature “less is more” aesthetic results in organized, fluid designs and heightens the perceptions of color, textures, smell, sound and movement as a person interacts with a space.
The challenge of the landscape design professional is to ensure that both the indoor and outdoor environments interact seamlessly, which is only successful when all the senses are considered and engaged. Restraint and balance drive our design perspective, allowing each element of the design to be noticed and appreciated as both individual parts and as components of a complete system.
rDS develops all aspects of a site, including hardscape layout and materials, plant materials, water usage, site furnishings, special features, lighting and more. After design completion and approval, rDS works with clients to build and install the materials specified in the plans to ensure their vision is realized and translates into reality.
