What would you like readers to know about your firm?
I was born and raised in Torrance and have always loved building and designing things. I founded Roy’s Concrete and Masonry, Inc. in 1982, so for the past 37 years I’ve been creating beautiful outdoor spaces for South Bay homeowners. Roy’s does everything from driveways and patios to retaining walls, pool decks, putting greens, custom BBQs, outdoor kitchens and fire pits. We specialize in concrete, block, brick, foundations and stone work and base everything we do on the pillars of quality and integrity.
What sets you apart from others in the industry?
Many of my employees have been with me for more than 20 years, so our team’s deep knowledge of concrete and masonry and synergy of working together allows Roy’s Concrete and Masonry to create beautiful, quality work that lasts for many years to come. We pride ourselves on beautifully completed projects—on time and on budget.
What’s your favorite way to personalize a home or yard for a client?
Design is a huge part of concrete and masonry, and it’s important that the work I do stylistically goes well with the home or property. I pride myself on the way my projects flow with the rest of the property. I ask questions in the beginning of our working relationship about what is most important to my clients, what styles and materials they enjoy, and what their dream home/yard would look like. Then we take that direction and, with their budget in mind, give recommendations of how we could execute their vision.
What’s your greatest accomplishment in life?
The beautiful family my wife, Kim, and I have created. We have been married for 37 years, and she has truly built this business with me every step of the way. We have two successful daughters, Michelle and Melissa, and a son, Michael, who helps me run Roy’s Concrete and Masonry, Inc. My 16-month-old granddaughter, Brooke, reminds me to step away from work and enjoy the little things in life.
Tell us a bit about what you do “off the job.”
When I am not working, you can find me on the golf course or taking my boat out with my family.
