Waterleaf Interiors

Describe the featured project.

Our featured home is a warm, contemporary, ground-up project. Our clients, Josh and Ellie Greenberg, wanted to take visual risks with color, pattern and textures to make their home exciting and unique. Our process started with going through the plans and reviewing every detail to make it cohesive with their day-to-day lifestyle. Ellie, creator of whatstheflip.com,  and Josh love to entertain, and the kitchen is the heart of their home. To create the contemporary European feel they wanted, we selected a high-gloss grey paint, a narrow shaker rail on the cabinetry and beautiful pendants over the island. The kitchen island is painted a custom peacock blue, which is a key design element throughout the main floor. We worked with our clients to select several pieces by pop-surrealist painter Daniel Maltzman that play into their love of music and fashion.

What are your favorite sources of inspiration in your work?

Our clients are our #1 source of inspiration. We pay close attention to how they envision their home, and we make it the best version possible. We are constantly traveling to furniture shows, vacationing to interesting places, and learning about new products and trends that give us inspiration in our work.

Tell us about your business.

We opened Waterleaf almost 16 years ago in the summer of 2006 with four employees in the tiny back stockroom of our flagship Metlox location. We opened with a combined space for interior design and retail, not knowing exactly what direction our business would take. We were excited about the possibilities. Although we opened at the start of the recession, our interior design business grew quickly. Within five years, we took over the adjacent Color Me Mine space to create a design studio for our growing design staff. Shortly after, we opened a larger connecting retail space for Waterleaf Home.

We’ve remodeled the spaces several times over the years to accommodate our growing staff, house our extensive samples library and expand our retail footprint. Vendors of the best fabrics, wallpaper, rugs, hardware, flooring, furniture, lighting and more visit Waterleaf daily to show us their lines, which saves us so much time in the design process. We also expanded online with the launch of WaterleafHome.com, which helped us tremendously during the pandemic.

Today the Waterleaf team, composed of 22 talented individuals including designers, retail associates and back-office admin staff, provides our clients and customers with the utmost expertise and support. We feel truly blessed that we love what we do, and we feel so fortunate to have such an amazing Waterleaf family of employees, clients and customers. The saying “pick a job you love, and you won’t work a day in your life” hangs in our studio—and that’s our story.
