The ultimate goal of the doctors and staff at Peninsula Interventional Pain Management Clinic is to improve the patient’s quality of life through minimally invasive or non-surgical pain-relief techniques. “We believe in managing any type of pain with multidisciplinary, cost-effective treatment plans,” says owner Dr. Ripu Arora. “Sometimes we use the help of a physical therapist, acupuncturist, social worker or psychologist to help our patients, since chronic pain can affect socio-psychological environment and vice versa.” Dr. Arora, who is board-certified in pain management and anesthesiology, has been interested in medicine since he was 7 years old and has been practicing in the South Bay for nearly 20 years. He graduated with honors two years ago from the University of Irvine with an MBA in healthcare. He serves on the Board of Directors for California Society for Interventional Pain Physicians (CASIPP).
What techniques are defining pain management today?
“Some of the advanced techniques like spinal cord stimulation and intra-thecal programmable pump implants have revolutionized the outcomes for our patients. When I started practicing, I did only five to seven types of procedures. Today I have more than 50 different advanced, minimally-invasive techniques to help our patients with chronic pain.”
Tell us about your family.
“My wife, Sheila Arora, is a certified physician assistant, trained in pain management and with similar goals as mine to help our patients. We have been happily married for 30 years, and we have two wonderful children. Our daughter is in medical school, and our son is a freshman in college. We all have similar interests and like to vacation together.”
Why did you pursue an MBA?
“I chose to earn an MBA because I wanted to learn healthcare policy-making and how decisions are made by bureaucrats and the insurance companies. I envision a healthcare system that is a win-win for the patients, providers and insurance companies.”
How do you give back to your community?
“I am a board member of the Illumination Foundation. We help provide resources and tools to help homeless families get back on track and help with their health issues and their children’s education.”
